Nickel

Nickel has played a role in the human endeavor since the dawn of civilization. Significant contributions to our modern civilization have included nickel in elemental form and/or in alloyed form. Nickel is a versatile element that will alloy with most metals.
Nickel is a silvery-white metal. Because Nickel was easily mistaken for ores of silver, the history of Nickel is not well documented.
The use of nickel is ancient, and can be traced back as far as 20 BC.

Description

Nickel is a silvery-white metal with a slight golden tinge that takes a high polish. It is one of only four elements that are magnetic at or near room temperature, the others being iron, cobalt and gadolinium. Its Curie temperature is 355 °C (671 °F), meaning that bulk nickel is non-magnetic above this temperature. The unit cell of nickel is a face centered cube. Nickel belongs to the transition metals and is hard and ductile.
